BeWell Brings Fiber to the Table!
Healthy dining is about more than what’s on the plate. Through Elior’s BeWell health and wellness dining platform, culinary expertise and nutrition education come together to empower students, faculty, and staff to make informed choices that support their overall well-being. But BeWell extends far beyond the cafe.
Through live cooking demonstrations, wellness tables, nutrition presentations and interactive educational events, students and school communities have opportunities to learn more about nutrition and how everyday food choices can contribute to a healthier lifestyle.
As part of the September BeWell promotion, “Fiber Up! Small Changes, Big Benefits,” over 1,200 students from Wisconsin schools including Northland Pines Middle & High School, Minocqua School District and Arbor Vitae Woodruff had the chance to learn more about the benefits of fiber while sampling a new BeWell breakfast option: Baked Pumpkin Oatmeal.
With support from Elior School Dining Wellness Dietitian MS, RDN and LDN Melissa Ferris, nutrition education was brought directly into the cafeterias, making an important wellness message approachable and engaging for students of all ages. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, along with teachers and staff, sharing enthusiastic feedback about the recipe.
Working alongside corporate and regional registered dietitians, culinary teams develop nutritious, appealing menu options that are easy to identify by the BeWell blueberry icon.
Registered dietitians also provide expertise in menu planning for specialized diets and nutrition counseling, creating another layer of support for students of all ages!
